Furry Friends Matter to Re-URBAN-It

September 19, 2018

For a lot of households, it is not only the furniture that can make a house feel like a home. Having a furry friend to be your companion can brighten up any room just like the perfect nook or a beautiful bookcase could. Re-URBAN-It is happy to support all pets and animals, especially those who are sheltered at Animal Care and Control Team (ACCT) of Philadelphia.

We have recently bought items from their Amazon wish list such as litter pans and tweezers to support this amazing animal shelter. Not only do we care about this organization because of its amazing work, but it holds a place deep in our hearts. Our owner, Breanna, rescued her 4-year-old Pitbull mix, Reina, from the ACCT Philly. Reina was two when Breanna adopted her and from what the clinic could tell, she already had birthed two litters of puppies. Poor Reina was severely underweight, all skin and bones with no hair and scabs all over her body. When the rescue team found her, she was tied against a tree in Kensington. From what they could tell, it looked like she had just given birth because her nipples were very enlarged.

When Breanna went into ACCT Philly, she was looking for a best friend! When she saw Reina’s sweet eyes, she knew that she was looking for someone to give her a chance. While she was not well-mannered nor did she know how to be walked on a leash, she was worth the time and patience to help her learn again. She needed to be loved and nurtured for her true colors to show. Although she is still more nervous than other dogs, it is understandable due to her past.

There are so many more animals with a similar story to Reina’s and you could help them, too! “ACCT Philly is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider, serving the City of Philadelphia by contract. ACCT Philly manages the city’s animal shelter facility in North Philadelphia handling nearly 28,000 animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually. ACCT Philly is open seven days a week – except for major holidays – for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly’s mission is to provide shelter, care and life saving efforts for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals and protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Philadelphia, providing a benefit to all of the citizens of the City regardless of race or economic status.” If you want more information like this, visit their website at http://www.acctphilly.org.
